Youth Entrepreneurial Services (YES) ‘pop-up shop’
Since Vicinity Northgate hosted the launch of Youth Entrepreneurial Services (YES) on June 30th, 2017, YES Participants, volunteers and staff have been busy developing and growing the YES social enterprise; a place where young people can get hands on experience in all aspects of business.
Participants have the opportunity to design and create a beautiful range of handmade products as well as work behind the scenes in website development, branding, admin and sales. YES has been to markets and also has an online store.
YES, being a social enterprise, has empowered young people to develop life and work skills which has so far resulted in:
57 young people commencing in the YES initiative.
- 15 Participants moving on to begin paid work, further education, or start their own business.
- Participants developing 16 different types of products.
Current YES Participants are being equipped for work readiness and many are ready to engage in both opportunities for a work experience placement and/or employment.
YES have had the generous support of volunteers and business mentors who have shared their skills and craft in a variety of mediums; from spoon carving to soap making and everything in between. These skills are then practiced and refined in order to create quality products for sale.
The product range on offer includes handmade soap, soy candles, a range of beautiful Tasmanian timber chopping boards, jewellery, terrariums, natural lip balm, Participant’s personal art and more!
If you would like discover what YES is all-about, have a chat to Participants and check out / purchase some of the wonderful products that are being created, from 5 February a ‘pop-up shop’ will be located outside Lowes at Northgate. This will be open from Monday to Thursday each week until the end of March, 2018.
Participants’ products are also promoted for sale on the following website www.yestas.com.au.
