We, at Northgate acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land our centre resides on, Palawa Country. We pay our respect to Elders past and present, whose enduring role in our communities upholds the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, embodies the vision that guides us today, and nurtures the legacy that empowers the next generation.

This year NAIDOC Week is in its 50th year.

It is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing culture.

Since 1967 an iconic part of the week has been the National NAIDOC poster competition. Each year, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists are encouraged to submit their artwork that reflect the year’s theme.

The 2025 theme is: ‘The next generation: strength, vision and legacy’ and the winning artwork is by Jeremy Morgan Worrall, a proud Ngarbal/Gomeroi man from Emmaville and Deepwater in northern New South Wales. His family lines include the Wrights, Connors, and Marlows.

The title of Jeremy’s artwork is ‘Ancestral Lines’.

“When I look back at my mob, it helps me see towards the future,” Jeremy says. “This piece tells the story of our knowledge — of lore, care, hunting, weaving, and love — being passed on through time. My hope is that it speaks to young people and shows them that they come from strength. They come from a legacy of survival and brilliance. And that gives us all vision for what comes next.”
